On June 21, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three indigenously designed and built naval ships at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata. The ships—INS Dunagiri (advanced stealth frigate), INS Sanshodhak (survey vessel), and INS Agray (anti-submarine warfare craft)—represent a milestone in India's maritime capabilities.
Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, the ships', construction involved over 200 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), showcasing India's commitment to 'Aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance). Modi emphasized the significance of the occasion coinciding with International Day of Yoga and World Hydrography Day.
Modi reiterated that strong maritime capabilities are essential for a nation's development, security, and prosperity. He pointed out that India's maritime sector, with extensive employment potential, is being transformed through new policies and reforms aimed at enhancing shipbuilding capabilities.
