The Department of Commerce, Government of India, organised a Chintan Shivir on "Opportunities for the Seafood Sector under the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA)" on 3 July 2026 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai.

The event coincided with Seafood Expo Bharat 2026, providing a platform for discussing potential benefits of the TEPA. This agreement represents India's first trade arrangement with EFTA nations: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

TEPA aims to facilitate USD 100 billion in investments and create one million jobs, focusing on technology transfer and collaboration with niche firms. The agreement reduces tariffs significantly, enhancing market access for seafood exporters, notably in Tamil Nadu.
