Dr Jitendra Singh said the National Education Policy 2020 has made higher education more flexible, aptitude-based, and open to students from Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns such as Doda. At a 2-day hybrid mode conference organised by Government Degree College, Doda, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, addressed participants virtually on the theme "Implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 in Jammu & Kashmir: Challenges of Inclusion, Equity and Accessibility".
Background and earlier position
The minister said students from far-flung areas earlier had to travel long distances to Doda and Bhaderwah because of a scarcity of institutions. He described Government Degree College, Doda, as one of the oldest and most distinguished educational centres in the region and said the district has the potential to become a major educational hub.
