The Ministry of Jal Shakti will convene the All-India Conference of Senior Most Secretaries of Water Resources Departments of States and Union Territories on 13 July 2026 in Chanakya Hall, Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting is significant because it brings together the Union government, State and Union Territory water departments, and key water institutions to review implementation of national programmes and to improve coordination in a sector that depends heavily on Centre-State cooperation.

The conference will be chaired by Shri C R Patil, Union Minister of Jal Shakti. Shri Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Shri V. L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), will also co-chair the meeting. Officials from all States and Union Territories, along with institutions such as the Central Water Commission (CWC), National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) and National Water Mission (NWM), will participate.

What the conference will discuss

The agenda covers eight priority items that link irrigation management, dam safety, water conservation and administrative reform. These items are directly relevant to UPSC because they connect a current official meeting with static themes such as cooperative federalism, infrastructure governance, and environmental sustainability.
