What happened
India’s Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, hosted the 8th Meeting of BRICS Heads of Prosecution Services in virtual mode on 20–21 July 2026 under India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship. The meeting was presided over by the Attorney General for India, Shri R. Venkataramani, and brought together prosecution leaders and legal officials from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting discussed the theme “Exchanging Experiences and Best Practices in Criminal Adjudication from the Prosecution’s Perspective”. The agenda covered digitalisation of criminal procedures, electronic evidence, time-bound trials, victim-centric justice, and stronger cross-border cooperation in criminal matters.
UPSC can use BRICS prosecution-services cooperation to test BRICS as a multilateral platform, the role of prosecution services in criminal justice, and the policy challenges of cross-border evidence sharing, cybercrime, corruption, and time-bound trials.
