What happened
The Department of Atomic Energy said students trained under the National Olympiad Programme delivered one of India’s strongest-ever performances at the International Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics Olympiads 2026. The result matters because Olympiad performance is a proxy for the depth of school-level scientific talent and the quality of India’s mentoring pipeline.
According to the Department of Atomic Energy, India won 12 Gold and 7 Silver medals across the four Olympiads. The Department of Atomic Energy also described the Physics and Chemistry results as historic golden sweeps.
