What happened
The Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, headed by Ms. Dola Sen, MP (Rajya Sabha), presented its 201st Report titled “Doing Business in India: The Way Forward” to both Houses of Parliament on 7 August 2026.
The committee held four meetings totalling 8 hours and 11 minutes, examined the subject with representatives of DPIIT and the Department of Commerce, and adopted the draft report on 5 August 2026.
What changed now
The committee recommended digitisation and a Regulatory Compliance Portal to reduce compliance burden; third-party evaluations and stronger grievance and performance tracking; automated Joint Site Inspections and third-party certification/self-reporting for lower-risk sectors; and harmonised safety frameworks including hazard-linked guidance under the National Building Code.
The committee also recommended strengthening BRAP with outcome-based indicators and “ground reality verification” through third-party random sampling and industry interviews, expanding BRAP with a single PAN-based Business ID across State clearances, and linking district-level implementation to a single transactional dashboard connected to the National Single Window System (NSWS) with mandatory deemed approval.
