What happened: Supreme Court acceptance of National Judicial Academy guidelines
The Supreme Court of India accepted a National Judicial Academy report in a judgment dated 14.07.2026 in Suo Motu Writ Petition (Criminal) No. 1 of 2025. The Supreme Court emphasised that judicial processes in sexual offence cases must show compassion, empathy and sensitivity towards victims and other vulnerable persons.
The endorsed guidelines are meant to prevent secondary victimisation that can be caused by insensitive cross-examination. The guidelines also aim to support empathy, dignity, and fairness in the administration of justice through judicial training and awareness.
