Parliament Question: Green India Mission targets eco-restoration; Nagar Van Yojana to expand urban green cover

What happened: Government targets eco-restoration and urban green assets through GIM and NVY
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change provided figures in a written reply in the Lok Sabha about two environment initiatives: the Green India Mission (GIM) and Nagar Van Yojana (NVY). The Ministry stated that GIM is expanding eco-restoration of degraded forest and non-forest landscapes, while NVY focuses on increasing urban green cover through city-level green assets.
Green India Mission (GIM): eco-restoration coverage since 2015-16
Green India Mission is one of the nine missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). GIM is being implemented since 2015-16 with the objective of restoring degraded forest and non-forest landscapes using an integrated landscape approach. The Ministry reported eco-restoration coverage as follows.
GIM coverage reported since 2015-16 (17 States + 1 Union Territory):
Total eco-restoration area brought under GIM: 1,84,467 hectares.
