What happened: Government listing of major R&D and innovation schemes for emerging technologies
The Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, responded in Parliament by listing Government schemes and mission-mode programmes that promote research and innovation in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, semiconductors, biotechnology, and other emerging technologies. The submission also cited DST’s “Research and Development Statistics 2025-26” for trends in Gross Expenditure on Research and Development (GERD) and described measures for research infrastructure and researcher support.
Major mission-mode programmes and schemes cited (focus area and stated budget outlay)
Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund — deep technologies including quantum computing, robotics and space; artificial intelligence; biotechnology; digital economy; energy security and transition etc.; stated outlay: Rs. 1.0 lakh crore.National Quantum Mission (NQM) — quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and metrology, quantum materials and devices; stated outlay: Rs. 6,003.65 crore.National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) — artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, robotics, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies; stated outlay: Rs. 3,660 crore.Biotechnology Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (Bio-RIDE) — biotechnology, biomanufacturing and biofoundry etc.; stated outlay: Rs. 9,197 crore.India AI Mission — artificial intelligence; stated outlay: Rs. 10,371.92 crore.India Semiconductor Mission — semiconductor fabrication, packaging, design and semiconductor ecosystem; stated outlay: Rs. 76,000 crore.
