What happened: PosTransfer powered by UPI launched in Qatar via Qatar Post outlets
Qatar Post launched a cross-border inward remittance service connecting Qatar and India: PosTransfer powered by UPI. The service allows customers in Qatar to send funds directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India by initiating the remittance at Qatar Post outlets. The service is implemented through collaboration among Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).
The service became available in Qatar on 15 August 2026. An Embassy of India in Qatar update states that H.E. Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall, Doha and interacted with stakeholders.
Background and earlier position: postal inward remittances and the shift to interoperable digital rails
PosTransfer powered by UPI is presented as a modernization of international inward remittances in which postal operators use a common interconnection layer (UPU-IP) to connect with India’s UPI ecosystem (Unified Payments Interface, a real-time payments system). The design is meant to combine the physical reach of postal networks with digital payment settlement to bank accounts in India.
