What happened
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Union Health Ministry) organised a two-day National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) Review-cum-Capacity Building Workshop in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The workshop began on 20 August 2026 and was organised by the Central Leprosy Division (CLD).
The workshop aimed to strengthen NLEP programme implementation, enhance technical capacities, and accelerate focused action towards Interruption of Transmission (IoT) of leprosy.
More than 70 participants attended. Participants included senior officials from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), officials of the Central Leprosy Division, representatives from RLTRI Raipur and Aska Institute, State and district-level leprosy officers from Madhya Pradesh, district consultants, technical development partners, and a representative of APAL.
The workshop discussions reviewed epidemiology, assessed programme performance, identified implementation gaps, and shared field-level experiences and best practices. The emphasis remained on last-mile activities for interrupting leprosy transmission: early case detection, contact tracing, timely initiation and completion of treatment, prevention of disabilities, and intensified surveillance.
