The 14th India–Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting was held on 20–21 August 2026 in Dehradun. The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (BM-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The Nepali delegation was led by Mr. Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal.
What the India–Nepal JWG discussed: border management, security, and coordination
The JWG reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation related to border management and security. The two sides reaffirmed commitment to strengthen cooperation in these areas and agreed to sustain engagement across key operational and institutional themes.
Key discussion heads included:
Addressing trans-border crime and criminal activities.Strengthening and effectively utilising border infrastructure, especially Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), roads, and railway networks.Removing encroachments and maintaining boundary pillars.Strengthening institutional coordination and capacity building across various sectors.
