What happened: DFPD reviews foodgrains procurement, storage and tech-enabled PDS
DFPD (Department of Food and Public Distribution), Government of India, chaired a meeting of State Food Secretaries on 1 September 2026 in New Delhi. DFPD Secretary Shri Sanjeev Chopra led the review with Food Secretaries from States and Union Territories and officers of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) present. The agenda covered paddy and coarse grains procurement, public distribution system (PDS) reforms, storage policy, and technology tools used across procurement and distribution.
Kharif 2026-27 procurement targets and improved rice rules
Paddy procurement for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2026-27 was fixed based on deliberations with States/UTs. The meeting also reviewed implementation of Improved Rice under PMGKAY and other welfare schemes and discussed changed specifications for broken grains limits.
