Congress leader Jairam Ramesh demanded an official, structured review of Operation Sindoor, stating that former Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan (retired) raised serious concerns through renewed public remarks. Ramesh argued that Chauhan’s latest statements followed earlier revelations and that both together warranted a comprehensive review comparable to the Kargil Review Committee model.
Ramesh associated the demand with specific remarks by Anil Chauhan (retired) at the “VIMARSH” event on Operation Sindoor and its aftermath. Ramesh said Chauhan claimed that a loitering munition used during the operation may have struck the Kirana Hills area near Sargodha in Pakistan, where nuclear-related facilities are located. Ramesh also said Chauhan’s earlier significant revelations were made during a Singapore interview on May 30, 2025.
Background and earlier position
Ramesh argued that headline-grabbing interview or lecture revelations should not replace a structured review process for defence operations. He pointed to an earlier precedent from the Vajpayee government period, saying the Kargil Review Committee was constituted on July 29, 1999 and chaired by security analyst K. Subrahmanyam—four days after the Kargil War ended.
Ramesh further said the Kargil Review Committee’s report was tabled in Parliament on Feb. 23, 2000, and used this timeline as a benchmark for how governments can move from public claims to institutional review.
