The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Karnataka Legislative Assembly Deputy Chairman Pranesh M.K. seeking a recount of votes in the 2021 Karnataka Legislative Council election. The case matters because the disputed victory margin was only six votes, which makes the issue relevant to election law, judicial review, and the finality of electoral outcomes.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, with Justice Vipul M. Pancholi and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, rejected the challenge. The underlying dispute had reached the Supreme Court after a January 29 High Court order on a petition filed by A.V. Gayathri Shanthe Gowda, the Congress candidate and Pranesh's rival.
