What happened
BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi took a selective approach by focusing on student protests in Delhi while ignoring protests in Congress-ruled Jharkhand. BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra responded to Rahul Gandhi’s claim that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was responsible for violence during the July 20 march.
Sambit Patra accused Rahul Gandhi of using children to build a political narrative during Gandhi’s press interaction. Patra stated that his comments were not directed at the children who accompanied Gandhi during the press interaction, but at Rahul Gandhi. Patra further claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP were with the children and said children should not hesitate to participate in movements or protests when necessary. Patra also accused Rahul Gandhi of disrupting Parliament’s functioning.
Background and earlier position
The dispute described has two linked parts: BJP’s allegation that Rahul Gandhi focused only on Delhi student protests and ignored protests in Congress-ruled Jharkhand, and Rahul Gandhi’s claim attributing violence during the July 20 march to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
