What happened: Kharge challenges Shah’s “flood-free Assam” promise
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP over the promise that Assam would become “flood-free.” Kharge argued that flood-management and rehabilitation systems promised earlier have not been built despite BJP rule continuing for around a decade.
Kharge linked the challenge to flood impacts in Assam, stating that recurring floods have caused dozens of deaths and affected roughly ten lakh people across multiple districts. Kharge expressed condolences and urged immediate action.
Kharge demanded rescue, relief, rehabilitation and compensation for flood losses. Kharge also urged releasing assistance from the PM CARES Fund.
