Four beneficiary states—Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh—signed an agreement to resolve long-pending payment issues under the Narmada Award relating to the Sardar Sarovar Project’s cost-sharing.

The pact was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, and attended by the Chief Ministers of the four states.

Officials described the settlement mechanism as a one-time resolution of pending dues for the final settlement of costs. Shah said the unresolved issue had persisted for a long period but was amicably addressed.
