What happened

BJP leaders Babulal Marandi and Aditya Sahu led protests outside Hemant Soren’s residence in Jharkhand. The protests demanded a CBI inquiry into alleged recruitment irregularities and demanded Hemant Soren’s resignation. Police detained Marandi and Sahu in connection with the protest action.

Police action against protesting students also became part of the dispute. Rahul Gandhi condemned police violence against protesting students at a press conference in Delhi and urged dialogue instead of violence. Rahul Gandhi also demanded that the Jharkhand government hear students and resolve students’ issues promptly.

Babulal Marandi alleged that the Hemant Soren government was “selling” JPSC and JSSC jobs. Marandi described the police lathi-charge as cruelty and barbarism and claimed the lathi-charge could be the “final nail in the coffin” for the Hemant Soren government. Marandi also alleged that the government remained a “spectator” despite illnesses among protesters.

Aditya Sahu criticised the Hemant Soren government as oppressive. Sahu condemned police forcibly dragging BJP leaders into a bus and called it a bad sign for democracy. Sahu demanded that Congress and Rahul Gandhi either pressure Hemant Soren to accept the protest demands or withdraw support to the Hemant Soren government.
