Cuba’s ambassador to India has called for lifting the United States-imposed energy blockade on Cuba. The ambassador said the blockade amounts to collective punishment and is deepening Cuba’s humanitarian and economic crisis.

According to the ambassador, fuel shortages are causing frequent blackouts and hurting agriculture, healthcare, water supply, food production, transportation, and education. The ambassador also said that more than one lakh surgeries are pending, including 11,000 children’s procedures, and claimed that infant mortality is worsening and cancer-survival rates are falling.
