What happened
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has moved the Supreme Court seeking a four-month extension to conduct elections in 369 wards across five city corporations in Bengaluru. The request would shift the deadline from August 31 to December 31.
The GBA said the request is driven by logistical constraints arising from Karnataka’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The authority argued that the same administrative machinery and personnel are already fully engaged in the revision exercise.

On May 20, the Supreme Court criticised the local body for allegedly using delaying tactics to postpone civic polls. The court had earlier set June 30 as the deadline and later treated August 31 as the GBA’s last chance, stating that it would not allow further extensions.
