What happened in the Lok Sabha
Union Minister for Ports and Shipping Sarbananda Sonowal told the Lok Sabha that an Inter-Ministerial Committee under Customs is examining a proposal to designate Sri City in Andhra Pradesh as a dry port (an inland logistics hub that supports cargo handling and customs processes). He also said the committee is assessing a similar proposal for Chityala in Telangana.
Approved dry port proposals and active consideration proposals
Sarbananda Sonowal reported both an already-approved set and a currently-considered set of dry port proposals:
Sarbananda Sonowal said the Inter-Ministerial Committee under Customs had already approved proposals for eight dry ports.He cited Fatehpur in Telangana as one of the eight approved dry port proposals.He said another nine dry port proposals are under active consideration.He named Sri City (in Tirupati district) and Chityala (in Nalgonda) as part of the nine proposals under active consideration.
