What happened: “One Day, One University” university outreach for Gen Z and Gen Alpha

The Union government plans a recurring university outreach programme that assigns Union Ministers to interact directly with students at universities. The programme is named “One Day, One University”, and it targets Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

The programme design described includes these components: One Union Minister per day is assigned to visit a particular university.The assigned Union Minister holds interactions with students during the visit.The assigned Union Minister listens to students’ concerns about issues affecting the country.The assigned Union Minister briefs students about government welfare schemes, with emphasis on schemes for youth and students.

The Union government states that coordination will involve the Union Education Minister and the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister. Responsibilities for managing visits and coordinating with universities are assigned to Pralhad Joshi and Mansukh Mandaviya.

The initiative was discussed in a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 19, 2026.
