What happened

The Bombay High Court has declined to change its earlier order staying bail granted to Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre. Mhatre is accused of assaulting doctors at a civic hospital in Dombivli.

The court also directed that CCTV footage from the July 6 incident and footage related to Mhatre’s own hospital stay after arrest be preserved.

What changed now

Mhatre argued before the court that he is elderly and unwell and that police no longer need his custody. The Bombay High Court did not accept that plea at this stage and indicated that Mhatre should remain in jail for now.
