What happened
The Supreme Court granted posthumous relief to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by accepting two consecutive CBI closure reports filed in 2014. The CBI closure reports found no sufficient material and no good reason to register a corruption case linked to the coal block allocation scam.

Senior advocate and former Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar argued that the overall situation was “otherwise untenable,” and warned that initiating and sustaining prosecution can itself produce punishment through public narrative.
