The Supreme Court agreed to urgently list multiple petitions challenging a Madhya Pradesh High Court order on the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district. The dispute is exam-relevant because it combines heritage law, judicial review, and contested religious claims over a protected site.
The complex is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. One appeal has been filed by the mosque’s caretaker against the High Court’s May 15 ruling.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court had declared the Bhojshala complex to be a temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati. The dispute also records competing community positions: Hindus regard the site as a temple, while Muslims identify the 11th-century monument as the Kamal Maula Mosque.
