What happened
Aditya Birla Renewables Ltd. (ABRen), a subsidiary of Grasim Industries, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% equity and related securities of Solenergi Power Private Ltd., the owner of the Sprng Energy group, from Shell Overseas Investment B.V. The deal is valued at ₹17,200 crore, or about $1.8 billion.
The acquisition is expected to add a 5 GWp contracted renewable portfolio, including 3.3 GWp of operating capacity and 1.7 GWp under construction, along with grid connectivity and a development pipeline.
UPSC may link this deal to renewable-energy capacity addition, contract-backed power assets, grid integration, and the economics of large-scale clean-energy expansion in India.
