The Delhi government has begun digitising property records in Lal Dora villages and plans to issue smart property cards to eligible residents. The initiative is meant to replace weak and fragmented documentation with authenticated records that can improve transparency, security, and organisation in rural habitation areas.
Lal Dora refers to the red line marked by the British in 1908 around rural settlements for revenue purposes. The system allowed habitation areas to expand and build more freely than areas governed by strict urban building norms, but it also left many properties with incomplete or disputed records.
