What happened

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested former Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao. ED officials picked him up from his Hyderabad residence and questioned him in connection with an alleged liquor transportation scam.

ED’s allegation is linked to alleged irregularities connected with the previous YSR Congress Party government. ED focuses on alleged wrongdoing in (1) liquor transportation payment rates and (2) tender practices for liquor transportation.

ED’s allegation includes these figures and practices:

The government allegedly paid about ₹35 per kilometre for transporting liquor.The investigation alleges a prevailing rate of ₹13 per kilometre.The investigation alleges irregularities in the awarding of tenders for liquor transportation.

Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao is reported to be the fourth accused in the matter and is expected to be produced before a court on Monday.
