What happened: NIOT’s Foundation Day actions across ocean observation, mariculture, and deep-sea outreach

National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), conducted MoES Foundation Day initiatives that combine ocean infrastructure, marine biological demonstration, and outreach for deep-ocean minerals. NIOT announced infrastructure inauguration for a ballast water treatment testing setup, deployed an IoT-enabled nearshore monitoring observatory, demonstrated open-sea cage mariculture, and conducted industry outreach on polymetallic nodules exploration. NIOT also mentioned Ocean Olympiad India 2026 as a national-level multi-tier effort for ocean literacy among undergraduate students.

1) Infrastructure for ballast water treatment testing and nearshore monitoring
