What happened: Government implementation of the Journalist Welfare Scheme (JWS)
The Government implemented the Journalist Welfare Scheme (JWS) to provide one-time ex-gratia relief on an urgent basis to journalists and media personnel (or their families). The scheme targets extreme hardship arising out of death, permanent disability, serious ailments, and accident-related hospitalization.
The Government stated coverage under JWS includes journalists accredited by Press Information Bureau (PIB) and State/Union Territory (UT) Governments, as well as non-accredited journalists.
