What happened: India–Mauritius agreements on Oil and Gas cooperation and petroleum products supply
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri made an official visit to the Republic of Mauritius from 20–21 August 2026. On 20 August 2026, Minister Puri called on Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. In their presence, India and Mauritius exchanged two agreements for energy cooperation: (1) an Oil and Gas Government-to-Government (G2G) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and (2) a long-term Sales and Purchase agreement between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and the State Trading Corporation (STC) of Mauritius for supply of petroleum products.
What Mauritius is covered for under the IOCL–STC long-term supply agreement
The Sales and Purchase agreement states that IOCL will supply Mauritius’s entire import requirement for three petroleum products:
Motor Spirit (MS) (petrol) High Speed Diesel (HSD) (diesel) Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) (jet fuel)
The petroleum products supply agreement is stated to be for a five-year term, creating an assured long-term supply commitment for Mauritius.
