What happened: Morocco visit and the 7th India–Morocco Joint Commission
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology Jitin Prasada completed an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco on 25 August 2026, following meetings held during 24–25 August 2026. During the visit, Jitin Prasada held bilateral meetings with senior Moroccan Ministers and other dignitaries and participated in the Morocco–India Business Forum.
Jitin Prasada co-chaired the meeting of the 7th Session of the India–Morocco Joint Commission with H.E. Mr. Omar Hejira, Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, in charge of Foreign Trade, Kingdom of Morocco. The meeting reviewed progress in India–Morocco economic and commercial relations and agreed to deepen and diversify cooperation across multiple sectors.
Jitin Prasada also visited the manufacturing facility of India–Maroc Phosphore (IMACID), a joint venture of Morocco’s OCP Group with Indian partners, to review cooperation in phosphates and fertilisers. A high-level business delegation led by the Confederation of Indian Industry (Confederation of Indian Industry) held meetings with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).
Background and earlier position
India and Morocco described their partnership as long-standing and mutually beneficial, with strategic momentum credited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The 7th Joint Commission meeting presented a refreshed framework for cooperation rather than a single-sector negotiation.
