Engineering foundation: Defence in Depth and multiple physical barriers
India’s nuclear power plants are designed, constructed, and operated with multiple layers of safety under the Defence in Depth philosophy (layered protection combining engineering, monitoring, redundancy, and barriers). The safety layers include high-quality design and construction, fail-safe engineering, continuous monitoring, redundant safety systems, and multiple physical barriers.
