The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE), Government of India, has undertaken major reforms and digital initiatives to improve accessibility and streamline scholarship processes for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Backward Classes students.
A key reform measure is the removal of the requirement for submission of Domicile Certificate for applying under scholarship schemes. This change is expected to reduce the compliance burden on students, facilitating easier access to benefits and supporting thousands of eligible applicants studying outside their home states.
Currently, around 1.2 crore students benefit annually from the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship Schemes for SCs and OBCs. By eliminating the domicile certificate requirement, the application process becomes student-friendly, lowering documentation requirements.
