High-Capacity Weighing Instrument

In an Ease of Doing Business initiative, the Department of Consumer Affairs amended the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011. This change significantly reduces standard weight requirements for the verification of high-capacity weighing instruments.

Previously, verifying weighing instruments with a maximum capacity of one tonne required standard weights equivalent to at least one tonne or 50% of the instrument's capacity. This led to logistical challenges and high transportation costs.
