India's Steel Sector Records Growth in Q1 FY 2026

India's steel sector has shown considerable growth in the first quarter of FY 2026, with crude steel production increasing to 42.1 million tonnes (Mt) from 40.8 Mt in the previous year. This 3% increase reflects a positive trend in both domestic consumption and production capabilities.

The Ministry of Steel reported that finished steel consumption rose by 8.3% year-on-year to 41.6 Mt, indicating stronger demand in various sectors. The country remained a net importer of finished steel during this period, emphasizing the need for robust domestic production.
