Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) has emerged as a deep-water port capable of handling Capesize vessels, following the completion of its Capital Dredging Phase VI project.
With an operational draft of 18.0 metres, the Port can now accommodate vessels carrying cargo parcels of up to 1,70,000 DWT. Kamarajar Port is the second Major Port in India after Visakhapatnam Port to offer this draft.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted that this achievement is part of the effort to position India as a leading maritime nation under initiatives like Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
The investment for this project was approximately ₹ 440 crore, which focused on deepening the outer approach channel and associated navigational areas.
