What happened
Australia and India have launched the Australia-India Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (PACTS). It replaces the 2020 Framework Arrangement on Cyber and Cyber Enabled Critical Technology Cooperation and gives the bilateral relationship a wider strategic technology and supply chain agenda.
Why it matters
The new framework treats cyber security, critical technologies and supply chains as linked parts of national security and economic growth. It is also meant to support regional security in the Indo-Pacific, where undersea cables, semiconductor supply chains, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure have become strategic assets.
What the partnership covers
PACTS rests on five pillars of cooperation: supply chain resilience and diversification; critical technology; cybersecurity; digital resilience; and defence research collaboration. The two sides say they will identify specific projects with the private sector, universities, research institutions and government agencies.
