What happened
The 28th Meeting of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Society was held at the Central Academy for State Forest Service (CaSFOS), Coimbatore. It was presided over by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav, who is also the President of the WII Society.
This was the first meeting of the Society after its recent reconstitution for a three-year tenure. The previous nominated members’ terms had expired in April this year.
Background and earlier position
The Wildlife Institute of India is the country’s premier scientific institution for wildlife research, training, and policy support. Its Society provides institutional direction, reviews progress, and helps set priorities for the next phase of work.
At the meeting, Dr. G.S. Bhardwaj, Director of WII and Member-Secretary of the Society, presented an overview of the Institute’s landmark achievements since inception, its current priorities, and the Action Taken Report on decisions from the previous meeting. He also highlighted the strategic outcomes and major suggestions from the recently convened Former Directors’ Meeting.
