Indian Railways has approved ₹206 crore for deploying Kavach Version 4.0 on 680 route kilometres in the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines, of Delhi Division, Northern Railway. The move continues the nationwide rollout of India's indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.
The approved deployment is intended to strengthen safety on high-density and strategically important railway routes. According to Indian Railways, Kavach Version 4.0 is designed to reduce Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions while supporting safer operation at maximum permissible speeds.
Background and earlier position
Kavach is India's indigenously developed train-protection technology. It continuously monitors train movement, automatically applies brakes when necessary, and is designed to allow trains to operate safely at maximum permissible speeds.
Before this approval, Indian Railways had already been expanding Kavach on selected routes as part of a wider safety modernisation effort. The present approval adds another route block in Northern Railway to that rollout.
