What happened
India hosted the BRICS Meeting on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) on 21 July 2026 in Chandigarh as part of its BRICS 2026 Chairship. The meeting was part of a four-day BRICS Health Track programme and brought together officials, technical experts, and delegates from BRICS countries to discuss cooperation in traditional medicine systems.
The meeting finalised the Terms of Reference (ToR) for a proposed BRICS Expert Working Group on TCIM. Delegations also discussed research cooperation, education, regulation, and future areas of collaboration in traditional, complementary and integrative medicine.
UPSC can frame this as a question on health diplomacy, BRICS institutional cooperation, and the policy challenge of integrating traditional medicine with evidence-based public health systems. The issue also connects with India’s soft power, the Ministry of Ayush, and the regulatory and research ecosystem for traditional medicine.
