Rajya Sabha written reply on training programmes in nuclear technology by DAE and NPCIL

DAE and NPCIL have outlined their nuclear technology training ecosystem through BARC Training Schools, international specialised schools at the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership, and NPCIL Nuclear Training Centres located at operating and upcoming nuclear power sites. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, shared details of training centres, courses offered, and training capacity for nuclear technology through DAE and NPCIL. The reply also covered DAE’s workforce programmes (Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates, DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme, and Cat-I/Cat-II trainee pathways) and training/certification for Radiography Technique and Radiological Safety Level-2.

DAE training centres and course categories

DAE, through Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), runs specialised training schools for nuclear technology and related foundational sciences and engineering disciplines. The Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) is described as having five specialised schools to support international collaboration in nuclear energy research.

BARC Training Schools listed in the reply include an engineering and reactor-focused school, and an atomic minerals exploration and related R&D school.
