What happened (Lok Sabha reply and key exercise dates)
The Department of Atomic Energy provided a written reply in the Lok Sabha on security of nuclear power plants, cybersecurity of nuclear installations, and emergency preparedness exercises involving multiple stakeholders. The reply named ongoing regulatory and internal assessments, described plant-level security systems, and listed dates and modes of off-site emergency exercises.
The reply stated the following about emergency exercises at nuclear power plants (off-site):
- Kudankulam NPP site: the Integrated Command, Control & Response (ICCR) exercise was conducted on 15 April 2025. - Other Nuclear Power Plant sites: latest ICCR exercises have also been conducted since September 2024 till the date of the Lok Sabha reply. - Kalpakkam site: an off-site emergency exercise was conducted in ICCR mode on 17 July 2026. The initiating event was from PFBR (Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor) and the exercise involved participation of District Administration.
