On 6 August 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked seven years since 5 August 2019, when Articles 370 and 35(A) were abrogated. The Prime Minister described 5 August 2019 as a defining constitutional milestone in India’s journey towards inclusive development.
In the government statement, Prime Minister Modi said that over the past seven years, people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have seen changes across multiple sectors. The statement highlights expansion of infrastructure and growth of opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports.
The Prime Minister linked these changes to the 'full application of the Constitution of India', stating that women and members of marginalised communities, who were described as having been deprived of constitutional rights for decades, have been empowered.
