What happened: central assistance to Uttar Pradesh for atrocity prevention enforcement and victim relief
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment stated in a written Rajya Sabha reply that the Central Government is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for strengthening machinery for enforcement of the Protection of Civil Rights (PCR) Act, 1955 and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Under the Scheme, central assistance is released to States and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, for implementation of these Acts and for providing relief to victims of atrocities. The written reply by Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale, concerned Uttar Pradesh and covered the period from 2019-20 to 2025-26.
The Government reported the following central assistance released to Uttar Pradesh under the Scheme:
- Total central assistance released to Uttar Pradesh: ₹747.17 crore between 2019-20 and 2025-26.
- Atrocity victims provided relief under the Scheme: 1,43,543 victims between 2019-20 and 2025-26 (as stated in the reply).
