What happened: 48 PLI Scheme for Bulk Drugs projects approved (KSMs/DIs/APIs)

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Pharmaceuticals, approved 48 projects under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Bulk Drugs—a scheme aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing of critical Key Starting Materials (KSMs) / Drug Intermediates (DIs) and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The government also reported incentives and capacity creation status up to March 2026, including a list of APIs for which production has commenced.

Scheme scope, outlay, and reported utilisation status

The government stated the following financial and operational parameters for the PLI Scheme for Bulk Drugs:

Approved outlay: ₹6,940 crore.Incentive disbursement utilised (as of March 2026): ₹87.70 crore.Production capacity created: for 28 APIs/KSMs/DIs.Commercial production not achieved: 10 among the 28 items.
