What happened (Rajya Sabha written reply)
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Pharmaceuticals, reported scheme-wise measures to strengthen pharmaceutical and bulk drug manufacturing in India, including the State of Maharashtra. The Government’s claims were provided by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Smt. Anupriya Patel in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on 2026-07-30.
Key schemes and reported Maharashtra footprint
The Government described four policy interventions aimed at (1) expanding pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity, (2) stabilising supply of critical APIs and drug intermediates, (3) building bulk drug parks for common infrastructure, and (4) funding R&D capacity in the Pharma MedTech sector.
1) Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Pharmaceuticals
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Pharmaceuticals is designed to increase investment and production in the pharmaceutical sector and support product diversification to higher-value pharmaceutical goods. Under the scheme, the Government reported the following:
