What happened: bi-annual PM-POSHAN foodgrains allocations with state and Uttar Pradesh district-wise figures
The Ministry of Education shared PM-POSHAN foodgrains allocation information that connects central assistance, Food Corporation of India-linked supply, and school meal delivery. Under PM-POSHAN, States and Union Territories provide hot and nutritious meals to eligible children in Bal Vatika (just before Class 1) and in Classes I to VIII in government and government-aided schools.
The Programme Approval Board approves bi-annual foodgrains allocations for PM-POSHAN. The Department of School Education and Literacy makes allocations to the State Nodal Department and to Food Corporation of India, with concurrence of the Department of Food and Public Distribution. Annexure-I covers state-wise allocations for 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26, while Annexure-II covers Uttar Pradesh district-wise figures for number of children provided meals and foodgrains distributed for the same three years.

PM-POSHAN operates with education in the Concurrent List, so States/UTs are responsible for meal delivery in their school systems. The Centre provides 100% assistance for the cost of foodgrains, transportation, and Management Monitoring & Evaluation costs, while Food Corporation of India supplies foodgrains.
Food Corporation of India ensures continuous availability in depots and principal distribution centres in the North East region and allows lifting up to one month in advance. Food Corporation of India issues foodgrains of at least Fair Average Quality. District-level quality verification uses joint inspection by an Food Corporation of India team and a nominee of the District Collector or CEO of Zila Panchayat, District Panchayat, with sample retention by Food Corporation of India for verification during complaints.
